Executive Coaching

In 1:1 confidential sessions Marc works with executives, at various stages in their career, to describe the challenges they encounter in the course of running complex organizations and generate actionable steps and plans to address the problems they need to solve. Sometimes the sessions are an hour and focused on triaging a crisis that's just erupted at the office or coming up with a rapid response to a timely opportunity. Other times they are 2 or 3 hour sessions to explore new ideas about where to lead one's company in the future or to reflect deeply on what's really going on in the organization.

My approach to coaching is to be a good listener and to shift fluidly between being a confident, a blue-sky thought-partner and a brass-tacks advisor.  In this work I draw upon my own experiences (good and bad!) running large and small budget organizations, being on the receiving end of grant-applications, as a program officer and studying in management training programs at Harvard, Rockwood Leadership Institute, Spitfire Strategies and the National Arts Strategies Chief Executive Program.

This work is conducted in-person, by phone or video conference and can include regularly scheduled ongoing sessions or intensive short-term engagements.

Testimonials

"Working with Marc over the past two years has been professionally and personally transformative for me. As the leader of a nonprofit arts organization, I regularly encounter challenging staff changes, financial issues, board transitions, and partnership opportunities. Marc has worked closely with me to help focus our role in our community and to identify new ways to meet these challenges, all while growing each day into a more and more successful arts nonprofit organization. Marc's guidance has been critical to our growth and well being." Lisa Steindler, Executive Artistic Director, Z Space

"Marc's expertise is equally rooted in both the artistic and business worlds and he has an uncanny ability to understand how artists see the world." - Joe Landini, Executive Director SAFEhouse for the Arts

"What I appreciate most about working with Marc is his pragmatism and logical approach.  We bypassed all the fluff and got right down to the nitty-gritty. The results were practical, real-world applications of the ideas we discussed and they were delivered quickly and in a format that was easy to use, understand, and apply to the project at hand as well as for future uses.  I can’t recommend Marc strongly enough, if you are looking for meaningful guidance on organizational strategy, capacity building, or effectiveness." - David Archuletta, Executive Director, Joe Goode Performance Group
